Vaping: A safer alternative to smoking?

Vaping: A safer alternative to smoking?

“If you smoke, switch to vaping; if you don't smoke, don't vape."

This is the advice from Professor John Britton, the director of the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies, at the University of Nottingham.

Recently, doctors in Nottingham spoke out about how vaping nearly killed a teenage boy due to the catastrophic reaction in his lungs.

Ewan Fisher had to be connected to an artificial lung in order to stay alive.

He developed a condition called hypersensitivity pneumonitis – meaning that something in the vapes he was smoking had been triggering an intense immune reaction in his lungs.

Dr Jayesh Bhatt, a consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals spoke about the dangers of vaping as a smoking substitute.

"We consider e-cigarettes as 'much safer than tobacco' at our peril."

Should we continue to consider vaping as a safer alternative to smoking?
