UK general election campaigning kicks off

Parliament was dissolved in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

This means that campaigning in the general election can officially begin.

Boris Johnson will meet the Queen today to mark the start of the election period in the run up to the 12th December poll.

The Conservatives are launching their campaign with Mr Johnson promising he will “get Brexit done”.

Jeremy Corbyn is promising “real change” under the leadership of the Labour party.

Elsewhere the Liberal Democrats have promised that £2.2bn a year to be spent on mental health services which will be funded by a 1% rise in income tax.

The Green Party have promised £100bn a year will be spent on climate action.

And SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon is urging Remain voters in Scotland to back her party in a bid to stop Brexit.
