Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has filed a lawsuit against the Mail on Sunday over the publication of a private letter.
The paper and its parent company have been accused of misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and violations of the Data Protection Act of 2018.
In a statement posted on the Duke and Duchess’s website, Prince Harry said:
“Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year”
Referring to his mother, Princess Diana, who’s treatment by the tabloids has been widely criticised, Harry said that his deepest fear is “history repeating itself”.
It was due to these reasons that the royal couple have decided to take legal action.
Prince Harry accused the Mail on Sunday for purposefully misleading the public by omitting certain paragraphs from the letter they published.
