Home Office reports a rise in far-right extremists held under anti-terror laws in UK

Last year, thirty-three rightwing extremist were held under anti-terror laws.

These figures were released by the Home Office, and show a steady rise compared with the 28, 10 and 6 people from suspected far-right backgrounds who were detained in previous years.

The security minister, Brandon Lewis, had this to say:

“These statistics show just one part of the breadth of work undertaken by the government, police, security and intelligence agencies and local authorities to reduce the terrorist threat... From arrests and prosecutions to safeguarding and early intervention through our Prevent programme, we will continue to do what it takes to keep the public safe.”

However, the Home Office is also facing some criticism that it is not taking far-right extremism seriously enough

What do you think is causing this apparent rise in far-right extremism?
