Today, millions of people around the world are taking part in the Global Climate Strike.
Greta Thunberg and school students are heading this protest.
Last year, United Nations Secretary General António Guterres spoke about the climate crisis:
“Climate change is the defining issue of our time – and we are at a defining moment ... We face a direct existential threat."
Protestors are demanding “an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone”. Across the globe, people are calling on their governments to take more serious action to protect the planet.
Earlier this week, Greta Thunberg attended a Senate climate change taskforce meeting in Washington D.C:
“Please save your praise. We don’t want it. Don’t invite us here to just tell us how inspiring we are without actually doing anything about it because it doesn’t lead to anything … I know you are trying but just not hard enough. Sorry.”
Senator Ed Markey responded to her boldness:
“We need your leadership.”
