Boris Johnson to make another election bid

Last night, Boris Johnson’s bid for a general election on 12th December was rejected by MPs.

The result of the vote was 299 to 70 – well below the two-thirds majority needed under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

The vote came after Johnson officially accepted the EU’s Brexit extension deadline of 31st January.

The prime minister has said that he would continue trying to get an early election, telling MPs that “one way or another” the deadlock had to be broken.

Today, MPs will debate and vote on another bill for a 12th December election – this time only a simple majority is needed for the vote to pass.

Meanwhile, MPs from the SNP and the Liberal Democrats have suggested an earlier date in December to hold an election.

When do you think the next general election will be?
